Its faceplate and blower assembly were developed to allow a flush finish with the masonry fireplace. Cast iron was selected as the material of choice for this clean and modern unit. Installation into larger openings is facilitated by the use of an optional sheet metal backing plate. This insert will surely become the focal point of the room.
The included surround for the Matrix wood insert measures 36.125″ x 25.125″. Optional Backing Plate Kits available for larger openings that require a larger surround.

The 5″ Fresh Air Oval Kit is required if you plan on connecting a fresh air intake pipe. The oval adapter kit comes with the oval adapter, 2 clamps and the fresh air intake register hood. The oval adapter is intended for 5″ fresh air intake pipe. You will have to manually ovalize the flexible intake pipe to make the connection to the adapter. The oval adapter can be positioned on either side of the fireplace insert.
The 5″ Fresh Air Intake Register with Airtight Damper opens and closes the fresh air supply to a wood stove insert. It’s simple mechanism makes it possible to close the damper tightly when the wood stove insert is not in use. This will ensure the wood stove insert is not being cooled while the stove is not in use. The Rigid Fire Screen allows you to burn wood in the wood insert with the door open just like an old-time fireplace. Hear the crackle of the wood, watch the flames dance around in the firebox and relax around the wood insert on a cold winter’s night. The Rigid Fire Screen is easy to install and easy to remove when you are ready to load more wood. The insert should not be burning with the door open without the Fire Screen.
In the event the current fireplace is elevated above the hearth, then the Faceplate Backing Plate Kit is installed. The Bottom Faceplate Backing Plate is used to finish off this type of installation. The Faceplate Backing Plate is used when the standard flashing for the Osburn Matrix is not large enough to cover the opening of the fireplace. The standard Matrix surround measures 36.125″ x 25.125″. The Faceplate Backing Plate can be used to extend the surround to seal off the fireplace. The Backing Plate is available in two sizes: 44″ x 29″ and 50″ x 29″. The Projection Kit can be used in conjunction with the Faceplate Backing Plate Kit. The Projection Kit for the Osburn Matrix fireplace insert is the perfect solution if your fireplace depth is not large enough to fully push the insert into the fireplace opening. The Projection Kit can extend the insert either 2 or 4 inches outside of the fireplace. The Projection Kit simply bolts to the Matrix Faceplate for an easy installation. Rock-Flex 316Ti stainless steel chimney liner kits are UL listed and the perfect choice to install for your new wood burning insert. Each kit includes the 316Ti Flexible Chimney Liner, Vertical Appliance Connector, 13 x 13 in. Premium Top Plate, and Round Rain Cap.
The Osburn Matrix Wood Burning Insert is EPA rated and has a HHV rating of 75% which qualifies for the wood and pellet stove tax credit through the end of 2032. From January 2023 through December 2032 you can receive up to a 30% tax credit for the installation and parts required, such as chimney liner and insulation.
