How often should I inspect or sweep my chimney?
The NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) code 211 says, “Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary.” Annual inspection with a fireplace chimney sweep as required. This is the National safety standard!
Should I invest in a chimney cap?
Absolutely! Chimney caps offer protection from water damage that leads to thousands of dollars in repairs. It also keeps out unwanted animals such as bats, raccoons, squirrels and birds. It can also help deflect wind down drafts and keep fireplace embers from landing on your roof.

How do I know which service I need?

Is my chimney safe to use without repairing it?
The short answer is no. We can never say a chimney is safe to use without being properly repaired to NFPA Code and annual regular maintenance. We understand that this may not be the news you would like to hear and that it can be an unforeseen cost. However, we want you to know upfront with what is the problem and its solution to prevent the transfer of flammable embers or carbon monoxide exhaust gases?
Is my chimney grandfathered because of its age?
Again, the short answer is no! Any field technician that tells you different is wrong and it’s time to get another opinion. Massachusetts does not have any grandfather clause when it comes to a home’s safety. Once a non-compliant defect is found, it is required to immediately bring it up to the National Fire Protection Association Codes.
Can I send you pictures or a video of my recent chimney service?
Absolutely! The more we have to review, the easier it is to offer a solution. Although, this may not always be able to be completed without physically viewing the chimney or troubles you are experiencing.
